Weekend Writing Warriors ~ Keep Trying

wewriwa

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors, the hop where writers of all genres share, in ten mere sentences, tantalizing snippets of their work that will leave you itching for more. Or that’s the idea, anyway.  Let’s see how it goes.

I’m continuing with my erotic space opera, From Mars, With Love, but this will be the last  Mars snippet for a while. I know I’ve said that before, but I’ve got a new release to promote!  I’d tell you all about it right now but my editor and I are still working on a title.  Seems like my original title “Dark Heart” has been used about a gazillion times.  So next week you get to hear all about it. But I digress.  Our hero Eli is the prisoner of slavers who’ve stuck him in a stasis pod, but discovered something very unusual about the ring on his finger.  I’ve skipped ahead a bit since last week’s snippet.

The asteroider turned from the display and leaned over Eli. “You’ve been given a paralyzer, but you can still speak. Tell me, where did you get that ring?”

Eli had to dig deep into his muscle memories in order to send the proper signals to his mouth and tongue. “Mishhh,” he said.

“Keep trying.”

He licked his lips and mumbled, “My mother.”

“Is she altered? Has she ever been to the belt, the Oort or any other unregulated zone?”

Eli had no idea where his mother had been in her short life, but he doubted if she’d ever left Old York.

Don’t worry, Eli, help is on the way. Though probably not any raccoons.

This post is part of an ongoing blog hop hosted by Weekend Writing Warriors. Every Sunday, participating authors post ten sentences from a published work or perhaps their current work in progress. Then we hop to our fellow warriors’ blogs and check out all the fabulous fiction that’s happening! I heartily invite you to participate as a reader, writer, or both. It’s a great way to discover your next favorite book. Click here or use the address: http://www.wewriwa.com

  1. Even loved ones who we’ve known for the entirety of our lives have secrets. Not necessarily ones they’ve deliberately hidden (though those are cool too!). Just those that come from a life well lived and a depth of years. I love the mystery built into this excerpt.
