Greetings Readers, Writers and Random Internet Wanderers! It’s time for another installment of Weekend Writing Warriors, the blog hop where a bunch of really awesome writers share their work in ten sentences or less. This week I’m wrapping up the scene I’ve been sharing from my upcoming m/m fantasy romance, Gryffon Hall. Last week, Wryler rashly gave in to the impulse to make his betrothed-to-be, Lennox Arsbury, jealous by giving all his attention to Lord Rouchet. This might not have been the smartest thing Wryler has ever done.

Wryler could pretend that Rouchet had just flirted with him—he’d never been any good at such things himself.
“Do you live alone in that vast place?” he asked.
“My cousins are only visiting over the winter, so yes, I am mostly alone, a situation I seek to remedy.” Rouchet leaned so close his breath tickled Wryler’s ear and whispered, “It is not only stags and beasts I hunt.”
Wryler shivered as a warning bell clanged somewhere in the back of his mind, but he was too wine-sodden to make much sense of it. He lifted his glass.
“I wish you luck in your quest, Lord Rouchet.”
They clinked glasses and drank, Rouchet grinning in a way that had Wryler thinking of predatory cats who roamed the night. He sneaked another glance at Lennox, who was now red-faced and fuming. Wryler couldn’t have been more pleased.

Gryffon Hall ~ Release date August 30, 2016
Useless fourth son of the Lord of Glimmerveen, Wryler dreams of getting married and escaping the rustic confines of his father’s castle. A wealthy merchant’s son seems to hold the key to Wryler’s safe if somewhat dreary future. However, the arrival of a mysterious stranger on the eve of Wryler’s betrothal sends his plans into disarray and Wryler finds himself traded off in marriage to one of the most notorious rogues in the land.
Is Lord Aeric Rouchet the barbarian he appears to be, or is he something much worse? Separated from his family and thrust into a strange and dangerous new life at the foreboding Gryffon Hall, Wryler must unravel the secret of his husband’s shadowed life and defeat the curse which threatens not only his growing affection for the barbarian in his bed, but the lives of everyone the Lord of Gryffon Hall is sworn to protect.

Flirtation and alcohol are a dangerous mix, Alexis. Trouble is brewing (;-))

Uh-oh. Is Wryler going to regret this bit of drunken recklessness? Or maybe it’s what he needs to get out of a bad situation.

Yeah, dangerous games to play when you’re drunk… But it might end up better for him, anyway.

Wryler is either drunk or naive not to realize what us readers can see so easily.

A little bit of both.

He’s about to reap what he’s sown, methinks. That might be good…and bad. 🙂 Excellent little blurb you’ve written, btw. 😉

This snippet is excellent in so many ways. I definitely felt the heat of it, and I like that you let us catch the undertone of Rouchet’s words rather than spell it out for us. Awesome job! 😀

Too much drink, not enough realization. Nice snippet!
