I’m sharing from my work-in-progress, Snow, a romantic gay fantasy inspired by the tale of Snow White. It’s amazing how long a chapter can last when you’re sharing ten sentences at a time, but the end is in sight.  Of course it’s just the beginning of a novel full of trouble for Prince Gabriel, who now has reason to suspect his brother Tristan wants him dead.  You can read last week’s snippet here, if you like.

“I won’t have you dabbling in black magic,” Tristan whispered hoarsely. “Is that how you’ve spent your time in Craigmoor? Studying the dark arts?”

“What? No! What happened here was simply…. a natural occurrence, I should think, close as we are to the black forest.”

“There is nothing natural about what you did.”  Tristan seized Gabriel’s arm, his fingers digging in hard. “But we’re going to have to make the most it, or rather, the least of it. My men won’t wag their tongues—what about you?”

Following the death of his mother the Queen, Prince Gabriel is called home by his brother, now King. Gabriel hopes for a reconciliation with his estranged brother, but all is not well at Castle Rosenthal. King Tristan has fallen under the sway of a scheming alchemist and along the border of the Black Forest, magical denizens are on the move. Gabriel begins to fear for his life. Is the handsome huntsman in on a plot to assassinate him, or is there an even darker, more evil power afoot? A forced flight into the Black Forest may expose ancient magic at work, if Gabriel can survive long enough to uncover it.
