Weekend Writing Warriors #32

Greetings and welcome to another edition of Weekend Writing Warriors.  I might not be objective about this, but I think WWW is one of the funnest, most diverse fiction sharing hops around.  I hope you take the opportunity to check out some seriously awesome writers by clicking on the linky-loo there and continuing the journey, eight sentences at a time.

Things are getting steamy here this week as I continue with snippets from To Catch a Threeve. Last week Constable Axel Blackwood was stunned when the thief he’d just nabbed turned out to be – maybe – the long lost love of his life, Liam Alloway.

***

Axel reached up to brush it away, to get a better look. When his hand touched the smooth cheek, the man grabbed Axel’s shirt and dragged him forward into a rough kiss.

For the blink of an eye, Axel’s brain resisted. Liam was dead. This was a thief in the night, not his lost love. Then his body responded to the press of moist lips to his, and logic vanished quicker than fog in sunlight.

And it was like a sunrise, the heat that surged through his body and a delectable, crazy joy that teased every corner of his being. Liam!

Official Blurb for To Catch a Threeve ~ Release date October 28th ~

Axel Blackwood catches a thief and is astounded to see that he closely resembles Liam Alloway, the love he lost seven years ago in an attack by the evil woodland folk known as threeves. Axel suspects he’s fallen prey to dark magic, but can’t help becoming infatuated with his prisoner. He’s overwhelmed with the hope that he can at last bring his lost lover home, despite everything that warns him it’s all a diabolical trick.

Bryn Darrow, the half-threeve, half human orphan sent to trick Axel and rob him of much more than a simple gem finds himself equally as fascinated with his handsome human captor and the lure of someplace to call home, but he knows deep down that the constable is in love with a dangerous illusion. When he’s commanded by the threeves to murder Axel and steal a witch’s powerful grimoire, he’s forced to decide between the only family he’s ever known and the one person who might rescue him from a life of isolation and pain.

Will Axel and Bryn be forced into a deadly confrontation before they can discover the truth?

Hello everyone, and welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors! Today I’m off to the coast to bask in the wet and wild storm that’s a brewin’ off in the Pacific.  I’m hoping to get some hopping in while huddled in a cozy hotel room, but I might not be able to complete my rounds until tomorrow.  I won’t miss any of your great excerpts if I can help it.

I’m continuing with To Catch a Threeve until the Sunday before release day (October 28).  Last week Axel finally got a look at the thief and much to his shock, recognized him.

***

“Is it really you?” Axel released the man’s wrists and pulled him up to a sitting position. Their faces were inches apart. Every bit of him looked like Liam, the boy Axel loved. And yet something was off.

“Aye, it’s me, but are you you?” The man’s look was wary and hopeful at the same time. Leaves and mud stuck to his face on one side.

Welcome to another installment of Weekend Writing Warriors, the hop that gives you a tantalizing taste of some amazing fiction.  October has arrived and along with it, oddly, the sun!  I love the fall, with its invitation to cozy up in a patch of sunlight with a good book, a cup of tea, and hopefully several cats piled on lap and legs.  WWW is a great way to find just the right read to complete this picture.  Because October is release month for To Catch a Threeve, I’m going to keep posting from this scene for the rest of the month, which quite neatly (and perhaps diabolically) will leave us at a juicy cliffhanger ending.

Last week, Constable Axel Blackwood finally caught a glimpse of the thief.

***

Large eyes filled with fury turned toward him. Axel couldn’t make out the color in the odd light, but they glittered bright as a gemstone.

With difficulty, Axel pulled his attention from the entrancing eyes. As he took in the full sight of the man, his heart contracted, his vision narrowed, and his breathing stopped.

“Liam!” he gasped.

His prisoner’s expression changed from anger to confusion. Then he whispered, “Axel?”

The forest fell away as Axel reeled.

Weekend Writing Warriors #29 & Cover Reveal!

Ah, it’s good to be back at Weekend Writing Warriors.  I had a great time at the Gay Romance Northwest Meet-Up in Seattle. Got to play fangirl to some favorite authors, listen to insightful discussions, and spend too much money on books, but this introvert is sooo much more comfortable sitting behind the keyboard in pjs and fuzzy slippers, sharing and chatting with ya’ll.

On to the snippet!  I’m skipping ahead a bit, because i have to admit, I’m dying to get to the juicy bits.  You can read the complete scene up to this point by clicking on the Threeve tab. Last time, Constable Axel Blackwood trapped the thief in a magical net.

***

The body under him started to writhe. Even through the heavy cloak Axel felt long lean muscles, taut and ready to flee at the slightest chance. He removed the manacles from his belt and grabbed one of the thief’s slim wrists.

He clamped one on and reached for the other wrist. With a sudden bucking motion, the man twisted sideways in an effort to throw Axel off his back. He only partially succeeded. Axel seized the sneak’s other arm and forced it behind him as well.

With the thief on his side now, the light of the crystal revealed a face that was clearly human.

***

I’m so excited because I get to reveal, for the first time on the inter web, the cover of To Catch a Threeve.  Bask in the loveliness.  I must say Loose Id gives good cover.  A shout out to artiste extraordinaire, Fiona Jayde.

Greetings and welcome to another edition of Weekend Writing Warriors– the blog hop that meets all of your literary titillation needs.  Just click on the link to discover a host of amazing writers posting eight sentences from their work; published, unpublished and hot off the keyboard.  I’m not sure if I’ll be posting next week as I’ll be in Seattle for the Gay Romance Northwest Meet-Up. If any other warriors are going to be there, maybe we could, like, meet-up!

Yes, I’m still inching ever closer to the exciting conclusion of this scene from To Catch a Threeve. At eight lines at a time, who knows, the book might be out before I get there.  Just kidding. Actually only a few more posts to go.  In last week’s exciting installment Constable Axel Blackwood finally caught the thief in a magical trap.

***

Suddenly the sneak stopped moving. Hunched in a tight ball, he started to mutter. This was what Axel had feared. He pounced and rapped him on the back of the head with the hilt of his sword. The man slumped, and Axel pressed one knee into his back. He had to dispel the magical net and replace it with real manacles before the thief had a chance to work any magic of his own.

He sheathed his sword as he whispered the words of release. When the dark lines of the net faded and slithered back into the ether, he searched the thief’s clothing for magical paraphernalia and weapons.

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors Blog Hop– I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend.  I spent mine battling blackberry bushes and running from angry bees. Much fun was had by all! This weekend I’m in California, but I hope I can still visit and comment on everyone’s posts- I always hate to miss anything.

I’m continuing with excerpts from To Catch a Threeve, which will be released in October.  Last week the thief finally made his move. Perhaps not surprisingly, he didn’t Halt when Axel ordered him to, so now there’s a very exciting chase scene going on. Hope you enjoy it.

***

Axel crashed blindly through the thick undergrowth, leaping logs, stumbling over fallen branches and getting slapped in the face with swinging limbs full of prickly pine needles. The sneak outpaced him and Axel could barely keep him in sight.

As the thief approached the creek, Axel shouted, breathless, “Kill la moora, hoc!” The flash pebbles burst open sending out stunning bursts of fire. The thief barely slowed, jerking sideways from the light display and straight into the sticky lines of magical netting Axel had cast earlier.

“Great Tree of—” the sneak cursed, dragged to his knees by the weight of the lines, which once broken sought to cling to the earth. Axel caught up and stood over him, bending at the waist with his hands on his thighs, sucking air. His catch thrashed against the tightening lines.
