Weekend Writing Warriors ~ A Fearless Gaze

wewriwaWelcome to another round of Weekend Writing Warriors.  I’m continuing with a scene from my new release, Masters and Mages 3: Curse of Salar.  Having decided he’d like to face a real challenge on the shibar field, Prince Dezra has invited Captian Rayn Nevar to a match.  He quickly realizes this might not have been the best idea.  This picks up right after last week’s snippet.

***

Dezra remembered the Armazins were his enemies now. Nevar and his group held the royals in little if any regard. It was a strange sensation to meet a fearless gaze. Dezra’s blood was already racing. He didn’t have to worry about Nevar holding back.

They both raised their shibars to chest height, and the chime sounded.

Unlike anyone Dezra had ever fought, Nevar didn’t hesitate but immediately attacked, shifting his hold and swinging his shibar toward Dezra’s as Briton had in the previous match. Only, instead of a direct blow, he switched in midswing and lunged toward Dezra’s head with the tip of the spear, seeking to end the match with one blow. Dezra barely warded off the thrust and slipped out of the way of Nevar’s charge. A stifled gasp went up among the palace observers.

CurseOfSalarFinal

In the desert kingdom of Jahar, the rule of mages has been overthrown and the line of sorcerer kings wiped out. Prince Dezra and his sister are the last living members of the royal family and are held prisoners in their ancestral palace.

Prince Dezra lives a life of lies and deceit. In order to stay alive, he must pretend to be a drug-addicted wastrel, trusting no one, isolated from even his sister who has chosen to cooperate with the government that executed their parents.

Into his lonely existence comes a man who should be his sworn enemy; Captain Rayn Nevar. Dezra is irresistibly drawn to the rough soldier and his longing for a simple sexual encounter quickly morphs into a dangerous obsession.

Captain Rayn Nevar knows he should stay far away from Prince Dezra, but his desire for the beautiful young man overrides all common sense. Despite the fact that Dezra’s ancestors destroyed Rayn’s family, the captain finds himself in a position of protecting the prince from the many schemers who believe the last of the mages should be annihilated.

When treachery leads to Dezra’s escape, he is at last free to bond with the serpent god Ka’alar and develop his long repressed powers. Only the arrival of a mysterious monk with powers greater than Dezra’s stops the prince from using black sorcery to destroy all who stand in his way, including Rayn.

As Jahar edges toward another war between masters and mages, Rayn must question his devotion to his increasingly deadly lover while Dezra must decide if ultimate power is worth the ultimate sacrifice.

Seductive Studs ~ His Divinity

square_SeductiveStuds

The clock strikes midnight and it’s time to begin another round of Seductive Studs, the blog hop dedicated to M/M romance.  I’m sharing from my new release: Masters and Mages 3: Curse of Salar.  This snippet continues on from last week.  Captain Rayn Nevar is recalling the first time he laid eyes on Prince Dezra, earlier that evening.  Although I am a writer of erotica, I usually I keep my online snippets fairly tame, but this week I have to insert **WARNING-ADULT CONTENT** If naughty words make you blush, perhaps you should not continue.

Rayn signaled for more wine and allowed memories of the evening to unfold as Havran raged on. By the time the Armazin party had approached the dais, he’d been eager to inspect the prince a little closer and had no intention of keeping his gaze respectfully averted. He refused to be cowed as so many in the grand hall obviously were.

Casually reclining in a massive wooden chair, Dezra’s slim body was tightly encased in severe formal attire. His elegant fingers stroked the curved arms of the chair, revealing tension beneath the studied indifference.

Rayn’s pesky imagination quickly had him leading Dezra away from his throne, peeling off the clothing, and teaching His Divinity a thing or two about how soldiers fuck. As Rayn’s mind filled with images of the long fingers stroking his growing erection and those full lips encircling his cock, Rayn had a difficult time paying attention to his minister’s speech.

Then Prince Dezra had shifted his gaze and stared directly at Rayn. Power radiated out of the supposedly relaxed prince. If they’d been at a normal court dinner and Dezra were not a forbidden state treasure, Rayn would have leaped to his side and aggressively wooed him until the delectable blond gave in to his demands.

Weekend Writing Warriors ~ Relish the Chance

wewriwa

If this is Sunday, it must be Weekend Writing Warriors time!  I’m continuing to share from my new release, the m/m fantasy Curse of Salar.  In last week’s snippet, Prince Dezra is having second thoughts about his impulsive decision to invite seasoned warrior Captain Rayn Nevar to join him in a not-so-friendly contest of Shibar.

***

Nevar stood nearly half a head taller than Dezra and was a good deal broader at the shoulder, though he was slim at the waist. He looked more like an acrobat than a soldier, or like one of the lion tamers who sprang onto the backs of stallions while spinning fire sticks. The perfect build for hand-to-hand combat, for which the shibar was designed.

Dezra mentally rifled through his readings on technique, on how to best an obvious physical superior. And Nevar was physically superior; there was no doubt about that. He wore clothing similar to Dezra’s, only his tunic was sleeveless, revealing smooth muscles like woven copper coils. If he wasn’t careful, Dezra would have a hard time keeping his mind on strategy.

They faced each other from one shibar length away. Nevar looked directly at Dezra with those smoky blue-gray eyes of his, another breach of protocol, but then the whole endeavor was improper. Dezra didn’t care, and Nevar certainly didn’t appear to either… as a matter of fact, he looked like he relished the chance to drop Dezra quickly and ruthlessly to the ground.

My Sexy Saturday ~ Luxury

LynnSexySaturday_banner

Happy Sexy New Year!  Welcome to the first My Sexy Saturday blog hop of 2016.  The theme is Our Sexy New Year and guess what? I got nothin’!  So in honor of our seven word, seven sentence, seven paragraph guideline, I went to page 77 of my new release, Curse of Salar, and this is what I found:

***

Even during his time as first officer in the minister’s personal guard, Rayn had never experienced such luxury. While the prince’s quarters were not exactly opulent or dripping with riches, every small detail within them was the rarest, most exotic and exquisite of its kind, much like the prince himself.

Rayn stretched out on silk sheets woven by the finest craftswomen along the sea of Kush. The natural coolness of the fiber was a delight against his overheated skin.

He should leave before the palace began to stir. He ached to be inside Dezra again, but he enjoyed watching the prince sleep. Without the twin dogs of worry and suspicion harrying him, Dezra’s beauty shone through.

Seductive Studs ~ Unexpected Urge

square_SeductiveStuds

Happy Saturday!  Welcome to another round of Seductive Studs, the blog hop dedicated to m/m romance.  This week’s snippet is from my new release, Curse of Salar, available now on Amazon and all the usual places. I’m continuing from where I left off last week.  Captain Rayn Nevar is reluctantly discussing Prince Dezra with Minister Havran, Rayn’s boss.  Havran speaks first.

***

“So you think the prince is harmless? A mere pretty bauble for Skala to wear about his neck?” Havran persisted.

“Harmless as long as he’s kept well away from the cultists of Ka’alar and those few madmen who think we need a mage to return Armazin to greatness.” Rayn drained his cup and blinked to keep his vision from blurring. The last thing he intended was to defend Dezra against Havran’s rancor, but an odd and entirely unexpected urge to protect the prince muddled his thinking.

Determined to turn the conversation to safer ground, Rayn asked, “But what do you think of Tovias and his continued incursions across the Rakkan border?”

Havran seized on one of her favorite topics with drunken glee and launched into a litany of Tovias’s failures as a leader. Rayn nodded at appropriate times and tortured himself by recalling his encounter with Dezra, if one could call it that. A look. A stare. A sort of understanding, if Rayn deluded himself enough to believe the prince had actually shown an interest in him and wasn’t simply bored out of his mind.
