Hello and welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors, the blog hop where writers from a wide variety of genres share from their work in excerpts of ten sentences or fewer.

Hallelujah! The rains have come (to Oregon) and the air quality has gone from hazardous to moderate. In the night the air is good, and I can’t tell you what a relief it is to be able to open the doors and windows and breathe. Being a writer and a hermit, I’ve always loved the rain, but now it feels like an extra special blessing.

Unfortunately, our friend Jacqui is not feeling the love.  On the contrary, his world is about to be upended.  He thought the stray cat he’d met the night before had snuck into his place, but who is this intruder, really? I’m sharing from the first chapter of my new release, Wild: Jacqui the Cat Mysteries #4.

Every muscle tightened, and the air rippled slightly as his body prepared to shift once again. To flee or fight as required. He forced himself to keep his shape, and seized up a pair of scissors from the workbench.

The bathroom door opened and a man stepped out.

A nude, grinning man. “Hello,” he said. “Hope you don’t mind that I used your shower.”

Prepared only to snarl, Jacqui managed to choke out, “Mind? Of course I mind. Who the hell are you?”

Alexis Duran was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest. At the University of Oregon, her fascination with people and relationships led her to major in Sociology, but her main love has always been creative writing. She has worked in museums, in fashion, in finance and film production. Her favorite job so far was Administrative Assistant in a haunted Victorian Mansion. She’s had several short stories published in the mystery, horror and literary genres, and one contemporary fantasy novel. Her fiction has won several awards including the Rupert Hughes Award from the Maui Writers Conference. She’s thrilled to enter the realm of erotic romance with the publication of her novels Touch of Salar, Blood of Salar and To Catch A Threeve. Weekend Writing Warriors ~ Shadows and Contrasts

Welcome to another edition of Weekend Writing Warriors.  We’ve had a blessed bit of rain here in Oregon, which makes for a lovely cool Sunday morning to snuggle up with some fabulous snippets of fiction.  This week I’m continuing to share from my new release, Betwixt and Between, an m/m contemporary fantasy set in Seattle.  Our hapless hero Ian has encountered a magical being at the Pike Street Market. Although sensing the man is dangerous, Ian just can’t walk away.  This is a little bit after last week’s snippet.

Ian waited until the musician entered into a very complicated set of notes before lifting the camera and snapping off a rapid succession of shots. Good thing he’d put in the high-speed film, as the stairwell was full of shadows and contrasts. One beam of sunlight snuck in around a cement beam and lit the violin player like a spotlight. Ian held the viewfinder to his eye and zoomed in. He focused on the creature’s eyes, which suddenly bored straight into his soul.

Instantly, Ian lowered the camera, but the mental image of the jewel-chip eyes took on a life of their own. Like blue flames, they danced across his vision and lodged in his memory.

Shit. He’d been zapped with some kind of spell for sure.

The elf grinned, lips slick with Ian’s precum. Ian rolled his head to the side to look at anything other than that achingly sexy smile, but he couldn’t bring himself to let go of the elf’s hair or even try to push him away. He was only a wish away from losing control and probably losing himself forever. If only he could come and get a moment’s relief.

As if sensing his thoughts, the svarta put his teeth on the tip of Ian’s cock and bit down slightly. It was enough to send Ian’s climax whimpering in retreat.

“Please—” Ian gasped, hating his weakness.
