Seductive Studs ~ His Divinity

square_SeductiveStuds

The clock strikes midnight and it’s time to begin another round of Seductive Studs, the blog hop dedicated to M/M romance.  I’m sharing from my new release: Masters and Mages 3: Curse of Salar.  This snippet continues on from last week.  Captain Rayn Nevar is recalling the first time he laid eyes on Prince Dezra, earlier that evening.  Although I am a writer of erotica, I usually I keep my online snippets fairly tame, but this week I have to insert **WARNING-ADULT CONTENT** If naughty words make you blush, perhaps you should not continue.

Rayn signaled for more wine and allowed memories of the evening to unfold as Havran raged on. By the time the Armazin party had approached the dais, he’d been eager to inspect the prince a little closer and had no intention of keeping his gaze respectfully averted. He refused to be cowed as so many in the grand hall obviously were.

Casually reclining in a massive wooden chair, Dezra’s slim body was tightly encased in severe formal attire. His elegant fingers stroked the curved arms of the chair, revealing tension beneath the studied indifference.

Rayn’s pesky imagination quickly had him leading Dezra away from his throne, peeling off the clothing, and teaching His Divinity a thing or two about how soldiers fuck. As Rayn’s mind filled with images of the long fingers stroking his growing erection and those full lips encircling his cock, Rayn had a difficult time paying attention to his minister’s speech.

Then Prince Dezra had shifted his gaze and stared directly at Rayn. Power radiated out of the supposedly relaxed prince. If they’d been at a normal court dinner and Dezra were not a forbidden state treasure, Rayn would have leaped to his side and aggressively wooed him until the delectable blond gave in to his demands.

CurseOfSalarFinal

Blurb for Masters and Mages 3: Curse of Salar

In the desert kingdom of Jahar, the rule of mages has been overthrown and the ancient lineage of sorcerer kings wiped out. Prince Dezra and his sister are the last living members of the royal family and are held prisoners in their ancestral palace.

Prince Dezra lives a life of lies and deceit. In order to stay alive, he must pretend to be a drug-addicted wastrel, trusting no one, isolated from even his sister who has chosen to cooperate with the government that executed their parents.

Into his lonely existence comes a man who should be his sworn enemy; Captain Rayn Nevar. Dezra is irresistibly drawn to the rough soldier and his longing for a simple sexual encounter quickly morphs into a dangerous obsession.

Captain Rayn Nevar knows he should stay far away from Prince Dezra, but his desire for the beautiful young man overrides all common sense. Despite the fact that Dezra’s ancestors destroyed Rayn’s family, the captain finds himself in a position of protecting the prince from the many schemers who believe the last of the mages should be annihilated.

When treachery leads to Dezra’s escape, he is at last free to bond with the serpent god Ka’alar and develop his long repressed powers. Only the arrival of a mysterious monk with powers greater than Dezra’s stops the prince from using black sorcery to destroy all who stand in his way, including Rayn.

As Jahar edges toward another war between masters and mages, Rayn must question his devotion to his increasingly deadly lover while Dezra must decide if ultimate power is worth the ultimate sacrifice.

Weekend Writing Warriors ~ Relish the Chance

wewriwa

If this is Sunday, it must be Weekend Writing Warriors time!  I’m continuing to share from my new release, the m/m fantasy Curse of Salar.  In last week’s snippet, Prince Dezra is having second thoughts about his impulsive decision to invite seasoned warrior Captain Rayn Nevar to join him in a not-so-friendly contest of Shibar.

***

Nevar stood nearly half a head taller than Dezra and was a good deal broader at the shoulder, though he was slim at the waist. He looked more like an acrobat than a soldier, or like one of the lion tamers who sprang onto the backs of stallions while spinning fire sticks. The perfect build for hand-to-hand combat, for which the shibar was designed.

Dezra mentally rifled through his readings on technique, on how to best an obvious physical superior. And Nevar was physically superior; there was no doubt about that. He wore clothing similar to Dezra’s, only his tunic was sleeveless, revealing smooth muscles like woven copper coils. If he wasn’t careful, Dezra would have a hard time keeping his mind on strategy.

They faced each other from one shibar length away. Nevar looked directly at Dezra with those smoky blue-gray eyes of his, another breach of protocol, but then the whole endeavor was improper. Dezra didn’t care, and Nevar certainly didn’t appear to either… as a matter of fact, he looked like he relished the chance to drop Dezra quickly and ruthlessly to the ground.

Weekend Writing Warriors ~ A Real Challenge

wewriwa

Happy New Year!  I’d like to say Thank You to all the great readers and writers who’ve participated in Weekend Writing Warriors.  You actually make social networking fun!

I’m sharing from my soon-to-be-released m/m fantasy, Curse of Salar.  Prince Dezra, who is bored sparring with servants who won’t risk harming him, has asked visiting soldier Captain Rayn Nevar to join him in a game of shibar, a type of martial arts where opponents face off with long, pike-like sticks.  I’m picking up right after last week’s snippet, when Rayn accepted the challenge with the caveat that Dezra won’t have him thrown in the dungeon if he “happens to crack a royal rib”.

***

“I promise, with all these people as witness.” Dezra threw up his hand to indicate the thirty or so servants, guards, and visitors assembled there. “Though that’s not likely to happen – I’ve been training for ten years.” He said this only out of a sense of fun, because he was excited to face a real challenge. If the captain was skilled at all, he might very well best Dezra.

“With due respect, if your opponents are afraid to hit you, the training must be lacking.” Nevar smiled and strode onto the field, twirling his borrowed shibar. Dezra felt a rush of doubt as he watched the lean, tautly muscled man warm up lightly. While Dezra welcomed a challenge, he didn’t want to be humiliated either. The servants he’d beaten over the years would surely enjoy that.

Seductive Studs ~ He Is Our Enemy

square_SeductiveStuds

Happy New Year! Welcome to another year of tantalizing snippets from the writers of Seductive Studs, the blog hop dedicated to m/m romance.  I’m excited to start out 2016 with the release of the third book in the Masters and Mages series: Curse of Salar.  Release date is January 5, but it’s available for pre-order now on Loose Id. (And it’s on sale!)

Okay, enough of the sales pitch.  This week I’m sharing a snippet in Captain Rayn Nevar’s POV. He’s having a discussion with his boss Minister Havran, and fellow soldier Arn Gilder, about just how dangerous Prince Dezra really is.  Minster Havran speaks first:

“Prince Dezra is heir to the throne of Armazin. Therefore he is our enemy. Yours in particular, Captain Nevar.”

“The throne no longer exists. The royalist rebellion is defeated.”

“Doesn’t it bother you that the great-grandson of Reva Luzan, the mage who destroyed your family, sits beside Grand Premier Skala, sipping wine and plotting his return to Armazin?”

Gilder snorted. “The prince isn’t plotting anything except which serving boy to take to bed next.”

“Reva Luzan was mad,” Rayn said. “Until I learn of some reason to fear the royals, I won’t let ancient history cloud my judgment of what’s happening today.”

“How very cultured of you.” Havran sniffed and lifted her cup but didn’t drink. “As a member of the council of Armazin, I can’t afford to be so forgiving.”

Rayn shifted uncomfortably. The furniture didn’t suit him any better than it did Gilder, nor did the conversation. The delicate trappings of the palace made Rayn feel like an ox in a pottery shop, and discussions of political intrigue reminded him he was a soldier first, a diplomat far second.

Weekend Writing Warriors ~ A Fair Match

wewriwa

It’s Weekend Writing Warrior time again. This week I’m continuing the time honored tradition of shameless self-promotion and sharing an excerpt from my soon to be released m/m fantasy, Curse of Salar, available January 5th.

I skipped ahead a little bit from last week’s snippet.  Prince Dezra is excited for the chance to test his skills against someone besides timid servants and teachers.

***

The idea of sparring with Nevar sent a ripple of excitement coursing through Dezra’s body. Before anyone could say anything that might ruin his fun, he stepped out on the field.

“Do you know the shibar, Captain Nevar?”

The captain looked at the spear in his hand almost guiltily, as if ashamed to be caught with it.

“I learned it young and have kept up with it as a form of exercise, Prince Dezra.” He belatedly inclined his head ever so slightly in respectful greeting.

“Then perhaps you’ll do me the favor of sparring with me. No one here will give me a fair match. They’re all afraid to hit me.”

Lanz scurried forward, saying, “Pardon me, Prince Dezra, but that is not… It is against…”
